Edinburgh Accommodation

About Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a city that we never tire of visiting as there’s always something more to be discovered. The medieval old town, which literally tumbles down the “Royal Mile” from the castle, is a labyrinth of narrow wynds, staircases and hidden corners. And then you have the Georgian New Town, which is a complete contrast with its neatly arranged street plan and elegantly proportioned terraces. But wander around the New Town and you’ll also discover some surprises tucked away.

The best way to explore Edinburgh is on foot as the city is relatively compact and most of the major attractions are close together. Fortunately, Edinburgh also has a very good and easy to use public transport system and our guide tells you which bus routes to take to get to the attractions that are on the city’s fringes.

We also give you directions for 3 walking routes that will help you explore the “must see” sites and the quieter corners that you might otherwise miss. And, of course, we tell you where to find our favourite pubs.

Our recommendations on where to stay in Edinburgh include:

  • A family-friendly guest house on the outskirts of Edinburgh, but near to a Park & Ride facility,
  • 2  Edwardian period villas in the city’s “Southside” suburb,
  • A stylishly modernised 1930's villa in the quiet suburb of Trinity, not far from the Botanic Gardens,
  • 2 guesthouses close to the “Leith Walk”,
  • 1 guesthouse which is a 15 minute walk from the flourishing restaurant scene at Leith waterfront,
  • A farmhouse B&B near South Queensferry that is a must for “Outlander” fans,
  • A quirky B&B close to the King’s Theatre.

Young Children are accepted in 6 properties, and pets are accepted by arrangement in 2.

In addition to the places that we recommend from personal visits, this guide lists 8 additional properties that have been recommended to us by our friends and clients.
