Isle of Lewis & Harris Accommodation

About Isle of Lewis and Harris

If asked for a list of the most beautiful places in Scotland, several of our suggestions would be from the Isle of Lewis and Harris. There is something especially magical about the beaches on the west coast of Harris and they look stunning no matter what the weather does.

Of course, most visitors are drawn to these islands by the mystical standing stones at Calanais. This is indeed a timeless landscape and there are many parts of the island where there is little or no sign of human habitation.

The Outer Hebrides are rich in traditions and have a distinct island culture.  Some of the traditions, like the Gaelic language and weaving Harris Tweed, have been continued by the same families for many generations. Others, such as the island’s new whisky distilleries, are being regenerated.

The ferry services to Lewis & Harris are not frequent and the sailing times are often a bit inconvenient so planning a trip to the Outer Hebrides can be a bit complicated. You really ought to allow at least 3 nights or else your visit to these islands will feel too rushed.

PLEASE NOTE: That most island B&Bs will expect a minimum 2 night booking.

Our current range of Recommended Accommodation on the Isle of Lewis and Haris is limited due to the unexpected closure of several properties. We hope to rectify this soon, but our guide currently lists just 4 options:

  • A surprisingly stylish B&B on a working farm on the west coast of Harris,
  • An intimate little B&B beside a sheltered bay on the east coast of Harris,
  • A modern house in a quiet suburb of Stornoway within walking distance of the town centre,
  • A guesthouse in the centre of Stornoway,
  • A custom built 5 star luxury guesthouse with a shore front location to the north of Stornoway,
  • An excellent value B&B for couples in a quiet location just a 15 minute drive from Stornoway,
  • A custom built B&B / self-catering property in a remote location near the lovely beach at Mealastadh.

Young Children are accepted in 3 properties, and pets are accepted by arrangement in 2.

In addition to the places that we recommend from personal visits, this guide lists 7 additional properties which have been recommended to us by our friends, family and clients.

With the Guide, you also receive recommendations on where to find the best local:
