Moray Accommodation

About Moray area

The region of Moray (pronounced “Murray”) enjoys some of Scotland’s most fertile farmland and sunniest weather. As a result, Moray produced some wealthy and powerful families who constructed impressive castles. But this region is best known for the famous Speyside Whisky distilleries.

Since whisky is the main reason most people head to Moray, half of our recommended accommodation is grouped around the Speyside villages of Dufftown, Craigellachie and Aberlour. These villages are close to the well known distilleries of Glenfiddich, Balvenie, Macallan, Glen Grant and, of course, Aberlour.

The other half of our recommended accommodation is around the towns of Elgin, Findhorn and Nairn.  Elgin is the capital town of the Moray district and is notable for its grand Cathedral that dates from 1224. Although much of the building now lies in ruins, the towers of the west front are intact and you can climb these for a magnificent viewpoint over the town. Elgin was also a wealthy mill town and is still home to a thriving cashmere wool mill. Findhorn is a pretty seaside village with a long sandy beach and an interesting “eco-community” which is worth exploring. Nairn is just on the edge of the Moray region, but we have included it as the town is home to a very good golf course.
