Pitlochry Accommodation

About Pitlochry area

We have titled this guide the “Pitlochry area”, but it also takes in accommodation in the region around the villages of Aberfeldy and Strathtay. These villages are in an area of Perthshire that is famous for its salmon fishing rivers. If you want to learn more about the salmon and maybe even get up close to some of them, you should visit the “Salmon Ladder” at Pitlochry Dam. If you are lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a salmon as it passes upstream through the “ladder”.

Pitlochry is a popular tourist stop and the population of the town swells in summer due to the many visitors that come here to see attractions like Edradour distillery, Blair Castle, the Falls of Bruar, Loch Tummel and the lovely woodlands of the Killiecrankie Gorge. This is Scotland’s “Big Tree” country and it is a wonderful place to visit in Autumn.

Strathtay and Aberfeldy are a bit off the main tourist trail and offer a quieter alternative to a stay in Pitlochry. Within a few minutes’ drive from Aberfeldy you can find standing stones, a recreation of an Iron Age community, one of the oldest inns in Scotland and the oldest living tree in Europe.

This is a region with lots of pretty villages and scenic loch side drives. It is a good option for a central touring base, or as a staging point between the cities and the Highlands.
