Duthie Park extends over nearly 18 hectacres (44 acres) and was gifted to the city of Aberdeen in 1881. The main attraction of the Park is the Winter Gardens, which are the largest covered gardens in Europe. The gardens are divided into different climatic regions; Tropical, Arid, Japanese and Mediterranean.
If it’s a cold or rainy day, then visit the Winter Gardens to enjoy the dry warmth of the “Arid” Garden or bask in the sauna like humidity of the “Tropical” zone. Young children will enjoy the sight of the giant frog that emerges periodically from a pond inside the Winter Gardens.
The boating pond has been renovated in recent years and you can now hire pedalos to "cruise" on the pond. The pedalo hire is quite expensive though.
Duthie Park is a great place to go with children as it has a wonderful kiddies playground beside the main car park. The play park has some very attractively designed playhouses that look like they've come straight out of a fairytale book.
