CURRENTLY CLOSED FOLLOWING THE SALE OF CASTLE TO NEW OWNERS!
Torosay Castle is actually a country house in the Scottish Baronial style. It was built in the 19th century for the Guthrie Jones, and is still a family home. The family occupy the upper floors, so only the ground floor is open to the public and there aren’t too many rooms to see.
The rooms display the usual collection of antique furniture and expensive ornaments, but there are also some personal possessions that give an informal insight into the lives of the occupants. Such as souvenirs of the family’s adventures to Antartica, the father’s collection of items related to the Loch Ness Monster, and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings telling decades of local events.
The main attraction of Torosay Castle is the gardens with their Italianate walkway of statues.
A fun attraction for children at Torosay Castle is the miniature railway train, that carries passengers the short distance from the castle grounds to the pier at Craignure.
